Multimedia Data Indexing

چکیده

DEFINITION Multimedia (MM) data indexing refers to the problem of preprocessing a database of MM objects so that they can be efficiently searched for on the basis of their content. Due to the very nature of MM data, indexing solutions are needed to efficiently support similarity queries, where the similarity of two objects is usually defined by some expert of the domain and can vary depending on the specific application. Peculiar features of MM indexing are the intrinsic high-dimensional nature of the data to be organized, and the complexity of similarity criteria that are used to compare objects. Both aspects are therefore to be considered for designing efficient indexing solutions.

Rio: rhetorical structure theory based indexing technique for image objects

Efficient and relevant retrieval of any type of the data, especially multimedia objects, is based on indexing technique. Due to complexity of multimedia data, existing indexing techniques for multimedia objects suffer from irrelevant retrieval. Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST) has already been successfully implemented for indexing text documents, which has reduced irrelevancy. The focus of thi...

MUMIS – A Multimedia Indexing and Searching Environment

We describe in this paper the MUMIS Project (Multimedia Indexing and Searching Environment)1 and show the role linguistically motivated annotations, coupled with domain-specific information, can play for the indexing and the searching of multimedia (and multilingual) data. MUMIS develops and integrates base technologies, demonstrated within a laboratory prototype, to support automated multimedi...

Optimised Kd-tree Indexing of Multimedia Data

Near neighbor searching in image databases is a multidimensional problem. The kd-tree is one of the first methods proposed for indexing multidimensional data. We describe optimizations of this method, and determine when they are appropriate. We discuss adaptations of the tree to feature extraction and indexing problems in multimedia data. Results show increased functionality and speed using the...

Semantic Modeling and Knowledge Representation in Multimedia Databases

In this paper, we present the current state of the art in semantic data modeling of multimedia data. Semantic conceptualization can be performed at several levels of information granularity, leading to multilevel indexing and searching mechanisms. Various models at different levels of granularity are compared. At the finest level of granularity, multimedia data can be indexed based on image con...

Parallel Algorithms for Indexing and Retrieval in Audio Databases

Recent explosion in the use of non-text, multime-dia data such as audio, video, images, and graphics necessitates the development and use of multimedia databases. EEcient schemes for indexing and searching in multimedia databases are essential for fast and sophisticated data retrieval. The highly complex nature of audio/visual query processing, and the vast amounts of data in multimedia databas...
